In the religious setting of Jesus’ time, a centurion was a military commander in charge of a century or 100 men. By that token, he was a great man, representing the Roman government. Luke 7:1-9 paints the portrait of a particular centurion in Capernaum whose servant was ill. The centurion loved his servant so much and wanted to save his life. When he heard about Jesus, he sent for Him in order to save the life of his servant.
At the last session of Thursday Showers, Pastor Taiwo zeroed in on the demonstration of humility and obedience by that particular centurion who declared to the Lord, upon Jesus’ determination to visit him, with a view to healing his sick servant: "Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof....†Commending the centurion, Pastor Taiwo observed that:
* He loved his servant in line with God’s commandment that we love our neighbours. * He was a man of power yet he was humble. * He understood the superior authority.
