Those occupying positions of authority in Nigeria, were on Sunday, the 4th of October, charged not to make the attempt to stop churches from across the state from praying because the prayers of the saints have actually kept the country. The charge came from the Senior Pastor of The Fountain of Life Church, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, while delivering a sermon on the topic, ‘PRAY’.
Pastor Taiwo, who took his text from the book of second Chronicles chapter 7 verse 14 to 15 said that people should not allow selfishness to override the need to pray. In his words, “There is a place of prayer, and the least I can do is to pray for Nigeria. There is nothing the devil can do to stop you from doing that which is covenant oriented before God. It is those who know their God that does great exploits. God still appears and talks to people.”
Quoting the book of Jeremiah Chapter 29 from verse 4, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya added that, “You are still a covenant child of God no matter the captivity you found yourself in. Live by the covenant and not by the dictates of what is happening in your environment. You must not be troubled because there is trouble everywhere.”
Pastor who said he will not stop shouting hallelujah, charged the congregation to encourage those being intimidated by the coronavirus to come to church and not allow COVID-19 to take advantage of them. In declaring that the backbone of the devil has been broken forever, Pastor prayed that the Christianity in the lives of members of the congregation would be seen by all. “Christianity is all about witnessing. I see you blessed and unstoppable,” he said

“BE CONTROLLED BY THE COVENANT NOT CONDITIONS AROUND”

Pastor Taiwo Odukoya has urged believers rather to be controlled by the promises in God’s Covenant with His children, and not conditions around them. He gave this encouragement at the October 1 Thursday showers which coincided with Nigeria’s 60th independence anniversary.
Speaking from Jeremiah 29:4, he drew attention of the participants to God’s conversation with His people who were in captivity in Babylon on how they should not suspend their lives because of their captivity but to rather live their lives fully, and pray for the city. He said this to say that Nigerians should not be discouraged and distracted by the seeming negativities around but to have a living hope for a better future.
According to him, Nigeria may not be where we want it to be yet, but citizens should live conscious of the promises of God. “Whether in or out of captivity, you will increase. Pray for the peace of the place you are located right now, because in its peace, you will have peace,” he said.
He also used Abraham and Joseph as example to show that when believers stop being fearful, God’s covenant would start to manifest in their lives. “Don’t elevate the devil, watch what you think and what you say!”
He therefore urged all to be continually thankful for the nation, and pray for her.
