Today’s Scripture: Psalm 119:58
I entreated Your favour with my whole heart;
Be merciful to me according to Your word.
The great importunity of Sir Walter Raleigh, court favourite during part of the reign of good Queen Bess, wearied Queen Elizabeth. One day, when he came to ask a fresh favour from her, she turned and said, “Raleigh, when will you cease to be a beggar?” Immediately came Raleigh’s reply, “When Your Majesty ceases to be a benefactress and to grant me favours.”
There is something about the request for a favour that makes it difficult to turn down. It comes, not seeking a right, but appealing for a privilege. It acknowledges what it lacks, and unashamedly reaches out for help. If humans find it hard to resist entreaties for favours, how much more God?
Time and again we find ourselves in situations that utterly overwhelm us; times when we lack even the moral ground on which to stand on. At such times, what we need do is entreat the favour of God, even as we find David doing in today’s scripture. The favour of God is a breath of prayer away. We all need measures of undeserved kindness, of special advantages, to prevail in life. How encouraging it is to know we can seek and receive the favour of God. We are not without help, not without a peculiar advantage. Let us resist the temptation of giving in to ordinariness. We have been born of the supernatural. We have a covenant with God. We have special privileges. We only need to ask, and ask in faith. The favour of God is yours for the asking. Entreat Him today. He will not fail you, in Jesus’ name.

Father, I ask for Your favour over my life, business and family today. I receive it by faith, and I thank You for it, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
