OUR WEAKNESS, HIS STRENGTH

Today’s Scripture: Matthew 11:29-30

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

When you get to that point where rising up from the bed each morning requires a ‘kick-start’, when you are weary, and the rhythm of your life seems broken, it is time to trade in your weakness for His strength.

This interesting illustration emanates from the Philippines, and Larry Chell tells it: “The driver of a carabao wagon was on his way to the market when he overtook an old man carrying a heavy load. Taking compassion on him, the driver invited the old man to ride in the wagon. Gratefully the old man accepted. After a few minutes, the driver turned to see how the man was doing. To his surprise, he found him still straining under the heavy weight, for he had not taken the burden off his shoulders.”

Are we not sometimes like the old man? Carrying on with the weight of our weaknesses, tired and weary, even when God offers us rest? Oftentimes our weariness is as a result of unmet expectations and temporary setbacks, which rob us of any impetus to aspire further. The Bible says, “Those that wait upon the Lord will renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31). So why not take praise with you, and turn to the Lord? Roll over your cares, whatever they may be, to Him. Ask Him to bring your hopes, vision and dreams alive again. Tell Him you trust Him and wait on Him for direction. We must learn to reach out to God when we are weak. The strength of God is at its best when we are tired and weary. The Lord will bring times of refreshing your way. He will renew your strength. You will find rest, in Jesus’ name.

Memorize & Meditate:

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:29-31 NIV

Prayer/Confession:

Father, I thank You because Your strength is made perfect in my weakness. I am grateful for the weight of glory You are working out for me. I thank You most of all that You are always with me, in Jesus’ name.
