Today’s scripture: Genesis 8:22
“While the earth remains,
Seedtime and harvest,
Cold and heat,
Winter and summer,
And day and night
Shall not cease.”
More than 200 years ago, George Washington travelled from Virginia to Washington DC by horseback. It took him 10 days, at a speed of 25 miles per day, to make the trip. Today, astronauts can enter a shuttle and travel at 25,000 miles per hour. At that speed, one can easily fly from New York to San Francisco in the space of 8 minutes. With all these advances in air travel, it is possible to have breakfast in Lagos, lunch in Accra and dinner in London. Indeed, change is in the very air we breathe, the only constant factor on God’s good earth.
The truth is, life is fraught with trends that are either emerging or declining. We record births and deaths on a daily basis. Governments come and go. The sun gives way to the moon. Each generation gives way to another. Everything is in a constant state of flux. And this has huge implications for human existence. We fall or rise to the extent that we are able to discern and adapt to change. This, unfortunately, is one of the most challenging things to do.
Humans are prone to resisting change. We get overtly accustomed to familiar situations, even if negative, change becomes unattractive and difficult to embrace. But we must welcome change if we desire to accomplish that which God has destined us for. Seasons will change, circumstances will change, and technology will continue to create new disruptions, those who know how to adjust, adapt and take advantage of change will emerge as champions in every age. The good news is, you have the advantage.
You serve a God that was, is and is to come. Nothing takes Him unawares. He does not only anticipate change, He creates it. Walk with Him, and He will show you what is to come. Consider how Joseph, walking with God, was able to deliver himself and the rest of the world from the drastic change, a severe famine, that was set to overtake them. Call on the Lord today and He will show you great and mighty things that you do not know (Jeremiah 33:3). He will equip you to thrive in a world given to constant change. Go ahead, live today knowing that all things, changing seasons and circumstances, are working together for your good. Expect change, embrace it, and ride on it into God’s plans and purposes for your life, in Jesus’ name.
Meditate and Memorize
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. John 16:13
Prayer/Meditation:
Father I acknowledge that you are the author of times and seasons. Grant me the grace to embrace change and thrive in the midst of it, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
