THE JORDAN PROCESS

Pastor Jimmy Odukoya @ Sunday Service

“Sometimes, troubles and trials are the catalysts that God will use to move you from where you are to where He wants to take you.” These were the words of the new senior pastor of The Fountain of Life Church, Pastor Jimmy Odukoya, at the Sunday service on September 17.

In his message to the church, titled “The Jordan Process,” Pastor Jimmy Odukoya reminded the congregation that leaders in God’s service may pass away, but their mantles of leadership and anointing are always transferred to a new generation of leaders. Reading from the Book of Joshua 1:1-9, he pointed out that when God’s servants or ministers pass away, a new season unfolds, and for every new season, God will speak to that season. When Moses died, Joshua and the children of Israel entered a new season, which is evident in God’s speech to Joshua, as recorded in Joshua 1:1-9.

He went on to explain that when God asked Joshua to cross the Jordan, He was taking Joshua from the natural to the supernatural, from the flesh to the spirit. According to Pastor Jimmy Odukoya, the crossing of the Jordan represents a separation between the flesh and the Spirit. He noted that in Genesis 13:11, Lot’s choice represents the flesh, while Abraham’s choice to trust in God for his direction represents the spirit. He illustrated this again with Elijah’s translation from earth to heaven after he crossed the Jordan, as well as a new season of leadership in the life of Elisha.

Pastor Jimmy Odukoya emphasized that God promised Joshua a fulfilled life if he kept His commandments and walked in obedience to His word. According to the pastor, this highlights the fact that to live a fulfilled life, one must be ready to separate from the flesh and stay connected to the Spirit. “If we, as a church, must enter the promised land, we must cross the Jordan. We must move from the flesh to the spirit,” he said. He further added, “The only thing that can transform us from this carnal nature to a Spirit-filled life is the power of the cross.” He provided scriptural references from the Books of 1 Peter 4:1-3, Galatians 2:20, and Romans 8:15-18.

Pastor Jimmy Odukoya was announced as the new senior pastor of The Fountain of Life Church by Pastor Rotimi Okpaise, a member of the Board of Trustees, during the Sunday service on September 17, 2023. Pastor Okpaise informed the church that Pastor Jimmy’s appointment came after careful deliberations by other members of the Board of Trustees and other stakeholders.

In appreciation, the new Senior Pastor thanked the Board of Trustees and the pastorate of the church for finding him worthy to carry on in his father’s footsteps. He then informed the church that his associate would be his sister, Pastor Tolu Odukoya-Ijogun.

Pastor Jimmy’s installation as Senior Pastor of the church and Chairman of the Board of Trustees is scheduled for Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 11 a.m.

“WALK CIRCUMSPECTLY”

Pastor Femi Megbope @ Thursday showers

Speaking from Ephesians 5:15–20, which is the scripture for the year 2023, Pastor Femi Megbope told the worshippers at the September 14 Thursday showers that believers need to be deliberate on how they live their lives, adding that they need to live circumspectly and not as fools.

According to the clergy, challenges would come the way of believers, whether financially, emotionally, maritally, or otherwise, noting that that is when believers ought to live carefully so as not to misbehave. “We are in a time where emotions can play up, and when you allow emotions to lead you, it can lead you into trouble by making you say what you ought not to say or do what you shouldn’t do. It is important that you ensure that you live wisely and not as fools,” he said.

Pastor Femi continued by saying that living circumspectly doesn’t mean to be afraid, but to carefully weigh all consequences before taking any action or decision. According to him, living as wise means being God-conscious in everything, while living as a fool means you are living a life devoid of God’s consciousness. “It is important that we live God-conscious lives and not let our emotions rule or lead us. Emotions are real and can be expressed, but if you allow your emotions to rule, you may not act or speak wisely,” he stated.

Tying Ephesians 6:15 to Ephesians 5:15, Pastor Femi explained to his listeners that just as their physical shoes protect them from hurting their feet and make them walk safely, the word of God helps believers not slip into error or danger when they keep their feet shod in it. In his words, “believers need to be guided by God’s word because that’s’ the only strong substance that can keep them from falling. It is easy to slip into error or danger when a believer doesn’t cover his or her feet with the word.”

He continued, “Walking circumspectly as wise and not as fools is when you are comfortable with the word of God that you know. The more you meditate on the word of God, the more it takes the shape of your feet. The revelation you get from the word is custom-made to your own feet, and the result of your meditation on God’s word is custom-made to your own walk with God. God will only show you what pertains to your walk with Him.”

He therefore urged his listeners to dwell more on God’s word and be guided by it because it is only those who know their God who will be strong in trying times and do exploits. “Not just head knowledge but a deep experience of Him. Have the word of God guide you at every point in time,” he urged.
