Pastor Jimmy @ Sunday Service
During the February 2 Sunday service, Pastor Jimmy Odukoya delivered a powerful message emphasizing the importance of focusing not only on the primary blessings of God’s promises but also on their deeper, secondary aspects.
In his sermon, titled “The Resistant Nature of God’s Promises,” Pastor Jimmy illustrated this concept using the analogy of a wristwatch. He explained that while the primary function of a watch is to tell time, its secondary features—such as design, craftsmanship, and brand—are what distinguish a luxury timepiece from an ordinary one. Likewise, he noted that while God’s promises include general blessings, it is the deeper, often overlooked aspects that truly establish a believer in faith.
He further highlighted that divine promises often take time to manifest, pointing to the time-resistant nature of God’s word. Drawing from Genesis 15:13-16, he stressed that God’s promises are not bound by time because God Himself exists outside of time. He affirmed that God’s promises endure beyond an individual’s lifespan and remain intact even after one’s death, stating:
“The spoken word of God cannot be constrained by time because God Himself is not constrained by time.”
Pastor Jimmy also addressed the coexistence of suffering and divine promises, explaining that trials and tribulations do not indicate the absence of God’s promises, even when believers feel abandoned in difficult times. Using the example of the Israelites, he noted that many who received the promise of deliverance from slavery did not live to see its fulfillment—yet, the promise remained intact. He emphasized that oppression does not nullify God’s promises; rather, the promise precedes and outlasts oppression.
Referencing Exodus 1:10-12, he explained that even when the enemy seeks to oppress and diminish God’s people, His promises ensure growth and multiplication. He concluded by reaffirming that God’s promise originated with Him, was fulfilled through Jesus Christ, and is sustained by the Holy Spirit.
A Word of Encouragement from Pastor Toluwani
Earlier in the service, Pastor Toluwani encouraged the congregation with the promise for the week from Deuteronomy 11:13-14, urging them to focus on God and surrender fully to Him in order to experience His complete blessings. She noted that believers often struggle to give their all to God due to external circumstances.
She emphasized that a surrendered life aligns with God’s will, positioning believers to receive His divine provision. Using the analogy of rainfall as a divine catalyst, she stated:
“Prosperity is what God desires for us, but there is an order and a process. We must fully obey and surrender to Him—then everything else will follow just as Jesus Christ admonished in Matthew 6:33 that we should seek first the Kingdom, and all other things will be added to us.”
