CONTENDING FOR YOUR POSSESSION

Pastor Taiwo Odukoya @ Sunday Service

We have been called to live a life of prayer if we must walk in our inheritance. Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, the senior pastor of The Fountain of Life church made this call at the January 24 Sunday service as he continued with the message he titled “Contending for your possession”, which he started last Thursday.

Reading from the book of Ephesians1: 1-14, the Senior Pastor noted that from Apostle Paul’s breakdown of the above scripture, every believer in Christ is expected to live a life of confidence based on the knowledge of the blessings from the finished work of Christ. “Paul knew so much of these blessings that whatever happened to him, he was confident of who he was (a blessed man) so we must emulate this.”

Pastor Taiwo also noted that a believer’s prayer shouldn’t be about begging but thanking God for what He has done. In his words, “We are the blessed of the Lord, regardless of all the arrows the enemy shoots. The blessings of God will not succumb to the problems; instead the problems will succumb to the blessings of God. Your blessings are superior to any problems you are going through.”

Whilst summarizing our inheritance in Christ into three major categories, (our security with God through His promise; our salvation through the works of Christ and our guarantee through the sealing/deposit of the Holy Spirit in our lives), Pastor Taiwo Odukoya explained that prayers is an important tool the believer must use in contending to keep their inheritance intact. He however noted that though many believers shy away from prayers, the lives of Apostle Paul and even our Lord Jesus Christ made it clear that prayer is vital. “Even Jesus Christ Himself never played with prayers,” he said.

Another tool pastor Taiwo pointed out is knowledge (studying) the word as admonished in verse 17 of Ephesians 1. “We should long to know God more because, the more you know Him, the more you see yourself in Him,” he said.

He further stated that for a believer to be able to contend for his or her inheritance, he or she must be strong in the Lord. Just like Joshua was encouraged by God in the Book of Joshua 1:9 to be strong, Apostle Paul also encourages every believer to be strong. By being strong in the Lord will we be able to contend, dispossess and take back our inheritance.

“CONTENDING FOR YOUR INHERITANCE”

Pastor Taiwo Odukoya @Thursday showers

Pastor Taiwo during his message at the January 21 Thursday showers said that believers who will possess their possessions and inherit their inheritance must be careful not to be distracted by the devil’s ways of distraction. According to him, the devil will deliberately isolate God’s children from Him and other brethren thereby causing them to shift their focus from their inheritance and thereafter attack them, thereby making them to lose their inheritance.

In his words, “The devil knows you are in Christ but he’d distract you so much that you won’t give attention to who you are and what you have, then you’d be busy looking at humans instead of God. When you are in His presence, the devil knows he cannot come close, he’d be consumed. So don’t let him get your attention.”

Taking his bible reference from Ephesians 1:1-6, and Ephesians 1:15, the Senior Pastor also stated that believers’ lack of understanding of who they are and what they have will make it easy for the devil to take advantage of them. “The problem with Christians is that they spend their whole lives begging God to do for them what He had already concluded. Your stability begins from knowing who you are, and what you have in Christ Jesus The best you can be, flow with the frequency of the Holy Spirit. When He is quiet, keep quiet. When He’s jumping, jump. When He is screaming, scream. You are not here to impress men,” he noted.

He charged the congregation to flow with the frequency of the Holy Spirit, with an addition that the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and that it is only the violent that takes it by force. “Don’t please men, but let your focus be on God. He should not be taken for granted because of His grace,” he stated.

He then urged them to rise up to their responsibility as children of God to show forth God’s power through their lives as that is when the world would see and also turn to God. “You are the one to show them that God is alive and His power is available.”
