IT’S ALL IN THE NAME

Pastor Jimmy Odukoya @ Sunday Service

Pastor Jimmy Odukoya at the July 28 Sunday service emphasized the importance of name, stating that the name of God encapsulates His essence and reputation, and calling on God’s name invokes His reputation. “When you call the name of the Lord, you have brought His reputation to bear on that issue,” he said.

Speaking from Psalm 20:6-7, Philippians 2:8-11, Psalm 7:17, and 1 Samuel 17:4-5, the Senior Pastor said that the name of Jesus Christ paves way, fights and wins battles, and renews life. According to him, the name of God acts as a defensive rock and stronghold. “The name of the Lord is a defense. When you seek refuge in Him in times of troubles, He will save you,” he said.

Pastor Jimmy stated that righteousness is required to have access to this divine stronghold, and this, every child of God has through Jesus. He therefore urged believers to trust this name for defense, provision, guidance, safety and victory.

Earlier in the service, Pastor Toluwani Odukoya encouraged the congregation from Mark 11:24, which was the promise for the week. According to her, the power of prayer brings one into the presence of God, adding that God grants anything asked according to His will.

The Associate Senior Pastor therefore urged the church to ensure their requests align with God’s will and to have faith in His Word to receive from Him. “When you pray, you are literately in the presence of God. And when you ask Him according to His will and believe, you will receive your request,” she said.

SUPERNATURAL VICTORY

Pastor Jimmy Odukoya @ Thursday Showers

Pastor Jimmy Odukoya said that supernatural victory does not necessarily mean you have to fight a battle; sometimes, it might just mean showing up. He said this at the Thursday Showers on the of July 25, 2024.

The Senior Pastor encouraged believers to always have the mind of Christ. This, he said, would make them victorious regardless of the situation they might find themselves in. Speaking from I Samuel 17, he illustrated with the story of David and Goliath and explained the kind of faith David had in God, which allowed Israel to win the battle.

He admonished Christians to walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7), adding that believers should not be constrained by their senses as this can become a prison which would not allow them to call the things that be not as though they were (Romans 4:17).

Pastor Jimmy also admonished Showerians to live a life of gratitude since it affords them the opportunity to see the bright side even in tough situations. The clergyman said that sometimes supernatural victory is tied to a single act of obedience, as was the case with David. In his words, “It was humility and patience that made him take portions of food to his brothers on the battlefield. This led to his greatest victory. He waited on God and didn’t consider such task mundane” (Psalm 27:14, 1 Corinthians 1:27).

The Senior Pastor continued: “Be blind to what your circumstances are saying and be open to the truth of what God is saying. Even when life seems hard, keep showing up for God” (Numbers 23:19, Jeremiah 1:12, Romans 3:4).

He implored Christians not to look at their circumstance or reality to determine their true identity. In his words, “You cannot allow the enemy to strip you of your kingship based on your reality; because if you do, you have abdicated your position because of a temporary season in your life” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, 1Peter 2:9).

He advised believers not to fight with another person’s weapon for “it takes wisdom to realize you can’t use somebody else’s armour to fight your battle” (Psalm 20:7). He added that God does not need our expertise or strength to work out a miracle, but He needs availability, obedience and willingness (Philippians 1:6).
